Efforts to make coconuts the mainstay of exports

In the National Coconut Conference (KNK) IX and the International Coconut Conference in Manado, North Sulawesi Province (Sulut) as a form to further prosper coconut farmers in Indonesia.

Head of the Other Palma Plant Research Institute Dr. Ismail Maskromo said that KNK IX was held two days, November 16-17 2018 which was opened by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman represented by the Head of Research and Development Agency Ministry of Agriculture Prof. Dr. M Syakir.

It is expected that the Coconut National Conference (KNK) IX in 2018 will improve farmers’ welfare and the sustainability of the coconut industry in Indonesia.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman through the Head of the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture Prof. Dr. M Syakir said the aim of KNK IX was to build synergy among stakeholders to accelerate farmers’ welfare, fulfill the needs of coconut and export quality products and sustainable industries.

Syakir said KNK IX was initiated by the IAARD, the Other Palma Crop Research Institute (Balitpalma) Center for Plantation Research and Development, and was implemented nationally every four years.

This congress has been held up to nine times in several places in Indonesia which is the center / center of coconut.

He said this activity would disseminate the results of superior research in the field of wood to the wider community, and foster creativity in developing quality products through innovative and highly competitive coconut product festivals, and provide social assistance to certified superior coconut seeds to the community.

He explained that the accelerated increase in farmers’ income for the sustainability of the coconut industry can be done, among others, through a comprehensive approach through the synergy of all stakeholders to realize their respective strategic roles optimally, directed and sustainable.

The Ministry of Agriculture through the Directorate General of Plantations and the IAARD in the 2017 and 2018 fiscal years has developed seeds of strategic plantation commodities such as sugar cane, coffee, cocoa, coconut, cashew, rubber, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Kadis of North Sulawesi Plantation Refly Ngantung said the regional government appreciated the national and international standard of coconut in North Sulawesi.

The regional government, he said, will continue to work together with the center to improve the welfare of coconut farmers in the region.

The main point of this coconut expo is to disseminate coconut technology innovations, including integrated coconut processing, tapping and processing of coconut sugar, land use between coconuts, germplasm collection and coconut hybridization and laboratories.?
